Sarajevo, October 25 (FENA) - Professor at the Faculty of Transport and Communications of the University of Sarajevo, Nedžad Branković, said that the Prenj tunnel is one of the biggest challenges our society is facing in technical, investment and construction terms.
Branković recalled that we built the last large facility in the early 1990s with our technical, engineering capacities and construction operations. It was a Križevići tunnel on the Tuzla - Zvornik line, five kilometers long. He noted that the railway tunnel in profile and equipment is simpler than the highway profile, but at that time we had the capacity and knowledge to build such a complex facility with our potentials.
He emphasized the role of scientific and professional community, the decision-makers of such capital decisions, as well as the implementers of such projects, to achieve the highest quality ratio of the investment funds and the effects that we should get by constructing such a facility.
“This project not only increases the annual GDP, but it also positions our state in the network of transport routes in this part of Europe. It also increases the competitiveness of the Ploče port because the biggest part are goods in transit, which actually bring the most revenue to our community, generated on the corridor route from Ploče to Budapest. These are some of the benefits that are expected, but to get to that stage we need to make sure that we are building a cost-optimal and highly competitive facility, and the money that is approved we invest with responsibility in order to get the highest quality building,” said Branković.
The scientific and expert meeting on the challenges of the Prenj tunnel construction on the Corridor Vc is being held today in Sarajevo, organized by the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Sarajevo, Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Mostar, and the Faculty of Transport and Communications, University of Sarajevo. Association of Geotechnical Engineers in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the implementer of the event.
