Novalić: Tunnel Prenj sets deadline for completing entire Corridor Vc

SARAJEVO, October 25 (FENA) - The FBiH Prime Minister Fadil Novalić said in Sarajevo today that one pipe of the Prenj tunnel with access sections could be completed in seven years.

At a scientific and expert meeting on the Prenj Tunnel "Challenges to Building", which is being held in Sarajevo, Novalić stated that this also sets a deadline for the completion of the entire Corridor Vc, like other sections, he added, are much easier to build.

The FBiH Prime Minister said that the Prenj Mountain is the largest natural obstacle on Corridor Vc and that the 10 km long tunnel would be the ninth longest in Europe.

"That is why we organized this gathering with renowned experts from Austria and Switzerland to show us the dangers and benefits that we can take from excavating the tunnels," said Novalić.

He explained that one tunnel pipe and another technical pipe would be built to begin with, and that they owe the citizens an explanation as to why the works on the Corridor slowed down even though they collected excise taxes, and, he said, the reason was the complexity of the remaining shares.

He specified that the funds for construction were already secured by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank for the access section from Ovčar to Konjic - 170 million euros, for the tunnel, which with one pipe costs 240 million euros, and for the section from the tunnel to Vrapčić.

"The stock would be functional with the addition of the Mostar-north subdivision, which would cost a total of EUR 820 million and there is a closed financial structure between the EBRD, the EIB, and BiH. banks would provide KM 450 million," explained Novalić.

He stressed that infrastructure construction is important because it saves BiH from the recession already engulfing Europe, as 92 percent of the highway construction materials come from domestic sources, with one highway construction job-generating another 2-3 in other sectors.

Prime Minister Novalić also stressed that the construction of the section would significantly improve BiH's traffic flow since it could take less than an hour from Sarajevo and Mostar, and the international corridor would attract passenger and goods traffic from Budapest to the Adriatic.
