SARAJEVO, October 24 (FENA) – Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mirko Šarović, strongly supports ‘Mini-Schengen' initiative which would contribute to greater economic and trade cooperation in the Western Balkans, as well as efficiency and competitiveness of companies, free market and trade.

The declaration has been recently launched by three countries (Serbia, North Macedonia and Albania), inviting other countries in the region to join them, Šarović said in a statement to the reporters in Sarajevo today.

‘Mini-Schengen’, in his view, should mean removing borders and other obstacles to free movement of people, goods, capital and services and it makes sense if all the Western Balkan countries are involved in the initiative and agree to implement procedures that each had to pass as soon as possible.

Responding to press questions, Šarović stressed that the declaration signed by Albania, Serbia and North Macedonia requires special attention to upgrading the system at border crossings, which means eliminating barriers most often encountered at these points.

It also means that products, equipment, goods and cargo will be transported from one country to any other within 'Mini-Schengen' without stopping, which will be allowed by electronic signature.

Some countries have already entered the electronic signature process, and Šarović believes that Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is in the phase of implementing the Customs Policy Law, will be able to adopt an implementing act at the Council of Ministers level next January and it will enable this important measure.

The initiative, among other, envisages the possibility of crossing the borders with an ID card, the recognition of diplomas and equal opportunity to work with the acquired qualifications in all countries of the region. It is also very important as it would somehow fill the already visible gaps resulting from the outflow of labor force from these areas to the European Union countries.

“I strongly support the 'Mini-Schengen' initiative and I think it can only contribute to greater economic and trade cooperation, as well as free market and trade the way employers, i.e. companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina want,” concluded the Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH.
