SARAJEVO, October 24 (FENA) - The eighth meeting of States Parties of the Sava River Basin Framework Agreement approved the first Sava River Basin Risk Management Plan. A memorandum on the establishment of a flood forecasting and warning system was announced for the coming period.

It was confirmed by the participants of this event, hosted this year by Bosnia and Herzegovina, chaired by BiH Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Minister Mirko Šarović. The participants were from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia. Montenegro is not a full member of the International Sava River Basin Commission, but it is a partner, the BiH Minister noted.

In addition to emphasizing the importance of the risk management plan, Minister Šarović also mentioned the establishment of a flood forecasting and warning system when talking about steps to follow in the coming period.

According to him, this will not be the end of activities of the Sava Commission, but one of the key goals will be demining of the right bank of the Sava River to enable navigation, as well as economic use of an important water resource and development of tourism.

At today's meeting, BiH expressed its interest in full participation and mobility in achieving presented goals, Minister Šarović concluded.

Head of Delegation of the Republic of Croatia, Elizabeta Kos, not only confirmed that the meeting approved the first flood risk management plan in the Sava River Basin, but she also stressed that the document will be of great help to the countries concerned.

According to her, the great floods of 2014, which occurred in the Sava Commission member states, showed the necessity of working on an early warning system for dangers.

At today's meeting, Elizabeta expressed her strong support for functioning of the Sava waterway, especially on the section Jaruge - Novi Grad.

Croatia will host the next, 9th meeting of the States Parties to the FASRB, announced Kos and expressed hope that her country would be a good host, as BiH was today.
