SARAJEVO, October 23 (FENA) - Directors and expert conference of the Southeastern European Public Employment Services Centers (CPESSEC) opened today in Sarajevo, as part of Bosnia and Herzegovina's presidency of CPESSEC.

The BiH Labor and Employment Agency Director Muamer Bandić said CPESSEC is proof that a positive initiative based on a friendly and creative basis can contribute to visible progress in the labor market.

He recalled that BiH chaired CPESSEC in 2009, during the recession period, when a large number of workers were laid off; there was a dramatic decline in industrial production and a decline in the living standard.

Bandić specified that there were more than 510,000 unemployed in BiH at the time and that ten years later, BiH recorded a steady decline in the number of unemployed, and currently there are 100,000 fewer of them than in 2009.

Director of the Employment Service of Montenegro Suljo Mustafić said that the labor markets of this region should not be viewed separately, but as a whole, because the labor force is fluctuating.

He added that there was a common need to discuss employment measures implemented by the institutes concerning better services of the agencies, better cooperation with employers and improving the quality of the workforce on the records.

Representatives of the employment services of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Croatia, Hungary, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Serbia and Turkey participate in the conference.
