Interpol issues ‘Red Notice’ for Bosnian war crimes suspect Esed Abdagić

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 22 (FENA) - Interpol has issued a ‘red notice’ for the arrest of Esed Abdagić, a former soldier who is charged with killing a prisoner of war in 1993 and is now believed to live in the United States.

Interpol has called for the arrest of former Bosnian Army soldier Esed Abdagić, who is charged with killing a Bosnian Serb prisoner of war in Bihać in 1993, after a request from a court in the north-western Bosnian town, BIRN reports.

“The Cantonal Court in Bihać has issued an order for the forced apprehension of Esed Abdagić because he is not available to the Bosnian prosecutorial authorities,” the court confirmed.

In July this year, the Bihać Cantonal Court confirmed the indictment of Abdagić, a wartime member of the Bosnian Army’s Fifth Corps, charging him with war crimes against prisoners of war.

Abdagić was charged in his capacity as a prison guard at the District Prison in Bihać with having repeatedly hit a prisoner of war who was a member of the Bosnian Serb Army’s Second Krajina Corps in December 1993.

The prisoner died a short time afterwards as a result of the injuries he sustained.

According to the Una-Sana Cantonal Prosecution, Abdagić now lives in the US state of Iowa.
