SARAJEVO, October 18 (FENA) - BiH Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA) Director Gordan Milinić spoke with the newly appointed Ambassador of BiH to China, Tarik Bukvić, about economic cooperation between BiH and China with a focus on Chinese investment in BiH.
It was pointed out that economic cooperation between BiH and China has enhanced since the launch of the 16 + 1 initiative, but also that Chinese investors' interest in BiH has increased in recent years, but that there is still plenty of room and opportunity of enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries.
As of December 2018, according to the Central Bank of BiH, foreign direct investment from the People's Republic of China amounted to KM 2.6 million, mainly related to wood industry, construction materials production, services and trade. They mainly operate in cooperation with domestic partners. Also, a number of Chinese companies have signed agreements with relevant institutions to implement infrastructure and energy projects, FIPA stated.
Preparations are underway for several major Chinese investments that should be ready for completion soon.
Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of China and FIPA in May 2016, with the aim of promoting economic cooperation between the two countries and investment potential in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Also, FIPA has been participating in the investment conference held annually in Ningbo with the aim of enhancing established relations with Chinese investors and finding new ones.
The agency will also provide the Ambassador with all the necessary support when it comes to promoting investment opportunities in BiH to Chinese businessmen, FIPA stated.
