SARAJEVO, October 11 (FENA) - EUFOR's Quick Response 19 exercise was completed today at Camp Butmir in Sarajevo which took place all over BiH between 7 - 11 October. The guests were able to watch EUFOR’s Multinational Battalion supplemented by the reserve forces as well as the Armed Forces BiH and SIPA.

The exercise, whose participants demonstrated the highest level of professionalism, competence and ability to perform the most complex operational tasks, was organized as part of a Professional Day, attended by BiH authorities and senior international officials, including Operation Althea Commander Lieutenant General Olivier Rittimann and numerous guests.

At the same time, the exercise showed a willingness to respond quickly and effectively, and to introduce reserve forces in case of any potential threat to the safe and secure environment.

The exercise involved several parallel activities, including arrest of those responsible for serious crimes - smuggling of people and narcotics, riot control and checkpoint set-up, as well as a helicopter evacuation.

As EUFOR Commander Major General Reinhard Trischak said after its completion, demonstration exercise and follow-up activities are the finale of the 'live' part of this year's Quick Response Exercise.

“The demonstration exercise we attended represented only a small part of EUFOR's capabilities,” said General Trischak, underlining that, in addition to a high level of competence, "Quick Response 19" also demonstrated the ability to work effectively with the AFBiH, as well as with law enforcement agencies, including the ability to deploy reserve forces promptly in the area of operations.

He recalled that the exercise, characterized by the speed and ease of deployment of reserve forces to EUFOR and excellent cooperation with the AFBiH and law enforcement agencies, included reserve forces from Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, the United Kingdom (UK) and KFOR.

General Trischak said that EUFOR will continue to support the safe and secure environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina in coordination and close cooperation with the AFBiH and law enforcement agencies.

Chief of the Joint Staff of the AFBiH, Lieutenant General Senad Mašović pointed out the importance of conducting today's and similar exercises and emphasized in a press statement that security is not something that comes by itself, but that it needs to be built and invest in it.

Quick Response is the longstanding annual test of EUFOR’s capability to rapidly reinforce its troops in BiH with part of its reserve forces which are held at high-readiness in partner nations. It is a large scale exercise demonstrating the EU’s resolve and commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

EUFOR Operation Althea is currently made up of soldiers from 20 nations. Its primary role is to support BiH efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment, whilst providing support to the overall EU comprehensive strategy for BiH.
