MOSTAR, October 11 (FENA) - Delegations from the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the FBiH Civil Protection Administration (FUCZ) and the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic visited teams working to remove and destroy unexploded ordnance and ammunition from Mostar Lake on Friday.
In the course of the lake cleanup, which runs from September 29 to October 13, members of diving and pyrotechnic team of the Czech Republic's Ministry of the Interior and members of the Specialized water rescue unit within the FBiH Civil Protection Administration (FUCZ) reconnoiter, extract and destroy unexploded ordnance and ammunition dropped or left over from the war.
During the visit of the BiH and Czech delegations, the activities and effects of the mission were presented, so everyone there could see the work of teams on underwater demining using underwater cameras and underwater drones.
Czech Interior Minister Jan Hamaček recalled that Czech divers have been present in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2011.
“They did their job successfully. In nine years, they have located and extracted several tons of different ammunition,” the Czech Minister said, announcing that cooperation will continue as long as the citizens of BiH need it.
FUCZ Director Fahrudin Solak commended good cooperation with colleagues from the Czech Republic, adding that in 2020 it is planned that the diving team from the Czech Republic and FUCZ members continue their cooperation and activities in training, extraction and destruction of mine-explosive devices at other locations in BiH.
Cooperation between Czech and BiH divers is realized within the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the BiH Ministry of Security and the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic.
