Kavazović: A bad message and an insult to the victims of genocide

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 11 (FENA) - Raisu-l-uleama of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina Hussein effendi Kavazović condemned the decision of the Literature Committee of the Swedish Academy of Sciences to award the Nobel Prize to controversial Austrian writer Peter Handke, calling it "a bad message and an insult to the victims of genocide and other crimes against humanity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Kosovo".

A statement issued by MINA said Rais Kavazović would address the truth and justice abiding Nobel Prize-winners, requesting that the Committee change its decision or otherwise reject their received recognitions.

Also, the Rais expects writers associations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the region and the world to raise their voices against the downfall of the values that writers should strive for.

“This is a terrible message that will not contribute to facing the past, reconciliation in this region or building a better future where there is no place for glorifying war crimes or criminals, upon which Handke's social engagement has been based for years,” said Rais Kavazović.
