More than 205.000 tourists in BiH in August

SARAJEVO, October 7 (FENA) - In August 2019, there were 205.238 tourists in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is 6.3 percent more than in July this year and 10.6 percent more than in August 2018.

There were 454.730 overnight stays in August, which is 7.5 percent more than in July 2019 and 5.3 percent more than in August 2018. Domestic tourists accounted for 21.4 percent of all overnight stays, while foreign tourists accounted for 78.6 percent.

The number of overnight stays of domestic tourists increased by 4.3 percent compared to July 2019 and increased by nine percent compared to the same period last year. The number of overnight stays by foreign tourists was up by 8.4 percent than in July 2019 and 4.3 percent more than in August 2018.

Concerning the structure of foreign tourist nights in August 2019, the most of them were realized by tourists from Saudi Arabia (12.1 percent), United Arab Emirates (9 percent), Italy (6.3 percent), Croatia (6 percent), Poland (5.2 percent), Serbia (4.8 percent), Slovenia (4.4 percent), Germany (4.3 percent) and Turkey (4 percent), which is a total of 56.1 percent. Tourists from other countries realized 43.9 percent of overnight stays.

As regards the length of stay of foreign tourists in BiH, tourists from Iceland and Malta stayed the longest with an average stay of 5.4 nights, then tourists from Kuwait with 3.5 nights, France with 3.2 nights, Ireland, Qatar and UAE with 3.1 nights and Bahrain with 2.9 nights.

In August 2019, 21.435 apartments and camping sites were available to tourists, which is up by three percent compared to August 2018 and 46.585 available beds, which is up by 4.6 percent than in the same month in 2018.

According to data from the BiH Agency for Statistics, 18.535 rooms and apartments were available to tourists in hotels and similar accommodation in August 2019, which is 5.5 percent more than in August 2018 and 38.271 beds, which is 7.6 percent more than in August 2018.

The net occupancy rate for beds in August 2019 was 34 percent. By the type of accommodation facility, the highest number of overnight stays was recorded in hotels and similar accommodation with a share of 90.7 percent.
