Mijatović condemns the attack on journalists of Radio Sarajevo news portal

FENA Press release

STRASBOURG/SARAJEVO, September 30 (FENA) - The Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Dunja Mijatović, today published a comment in relation to the attacks against some journalists of Radio Sarajevo.

“I welcome the prompt reaction of the authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina who condemned the attack against some journalists of Radio Sarajevo’s portal last Saturday and reportedly arrested the perpetrators.

It is important to give a clear signal that attacks against journalists are always attacks against democracy and will not be tolerated. In the face of mounting pressure, there is a need for strong action to counter hostility against journalists and ensure media freedom. It is therefore crucial that State authorities take all measures to enable them to work freely and safely.

As Commissioner for Human Rights, I will continue reminding them about this obligation and will stand with all journalists who face attacks or threats,” wrote Mijatović.
