SARAJEVO, September 26 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina is about to receive a permit to export lamb and beef to Malaysia, and key conditions required by this country have already been met - Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Mirko Šarović said today after meeting with Malaysian Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
“At the request of Malaysia, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations and the Veterinary Office of BiH have already submitted the request for export approval with all answers requested so far. We have necessary quality and it is crucial for us to successfully meet European standards, which is why we have developed trade not only with the EU but also with Turkey and Russia,” Minister Šarović emphasized.
The interlocutors agreed that the process of obtaining a meat export license should be completed as soon as possible in order for local businessmen to start exporting meat to this significant market. Malaysia imports 80% of meat and meat products from other countries.
It was also agreed to accelerate coming into force the signed BiH-Malaysia Trade Relations Agreement, in order to open possibilities to trade with other plant and animal products, in addition to meat.
The meeting stated that overall cooperation with Malaysia is enhancing, especially in the field of tourism. About 20,000 Malaysian tourists visit Bosnia and Herzegovina each year, the BiH Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations stated.
