Cvijanović: There are difficult times ahead of us

BANJA LUKA, September 16 (FENA) - President of the entity of Republika Srpska Željka Cvijanović believes that if Turkey were to open its borders to migrants, it could be catastrophic for Bosnia and Herzegovina and any country on the migrant route.

She reiterated that greater measures should be taken when it comes to the migrant crisis.

“Since 2015, we have been persistently saying that capacities should be strengthened, border protected and modalities should be found how to do it. We heard that the Council of Ministers did not have the funds to increase the number of border police officers, but they had the money to employ new administration,” said Cvijanović, adding that the problem is even bigger now since the EU has closed its borders.

She said in a statement to reporters in Banja Luka that the entity government's conclusions must be implemented, stating that the RS has no ability to do verification of migrants, “but certainly, they carry security and health challenges.”

“We expect difficult times ahead of us, and unless a new convocation of the Council of Ministers is formed, there will be no coordination of all levels of government, which means that it will be even harder to manage the crisis,” said Cvijanović.

She argued that the recently adopted SDA program declaration "further undermines the confidence in BiH and that the entity of RS is accustomed to international representatives not responding to this type of behavior by the SDA and the Bosniak representatives."

“We are used to this kind of behavior from the foreigners in BiH. When the SNSD passed benign resolutions and declarations that were a warning in their nature, everyone reacted,” she said.
