More than 900.000 tourists and 1.8 million overnight stays in first seven months

SARAJEVO, September 16 (FENA) – More than 906,788 tourists visited Bosnia and Herzegovina between January and July 2019, which is more than 11.7 percent and 1,878,023 overnight stays or 11.1 percent compared to the same period last year.

The number of overnight stays of domestic tourists increased by 6.8 percent, while the number of overnight stays of foreign tourists increased by 12.9 percent compared to the same period in 2018.

Domestic tourists accounted for 28.5 percent of all overnight stays, while foreign tourists 71.5 percent.

Most foreign tourists came from Croatia (13.5 percent), Serbia (9.3 percent), Saudi Arabia (9.3 percent), Slovenia (5.2 percent), China (4.8 percent), Germany (4.7 percent), Italy (4.5 percent), Turkey (4.7 percent), Poland (3.8 percent) and the United Arab Emirates (3.6 percent), which is total 61.3 percent. Tourists from other countries accounted for 38.7 percent of overnight stays.

Tourists from Kuwait with 3.4 nights stayed the longest, followed with tourists from Ireland with 3.1 nights, then Bahrain, Iceland, Latvia, United Arab Emirates and Ukraine with 2.9 nights each, according to the BiH Agency for Statistics.

By the type of accommodation, the highest number of overnight stays was recorded in hotels and similar accommodation with a share of 92.4 percent.
