SARAJEVO, September 13 (FENA) - The Seventh Congress of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), which will elect the Party's president, vice-presidents, members of the Main Board, the Supervisory and Ethics Board, will be held tomorrow at the Zetra Olympic Hall.

The only candidate for SDA president is current party president Bakir Izetbegović, and nine vice presidents will be elected.

In an interview with FENA, SDA Secretary General Halid Genjac said that this will be the largest congress in the 27-year long history of the SDA by number of delegates who will participate in the work of Congress, and that 1,346 delegates will participate in the work and decision-making process.

Regarding the election of the party president, Genjac said that all municipal, regional and cantonal boards have been instructed to nominate one or more candidates for the party president.

“When the process was completed, in late August, all 130 municipal, cantonal, regional organizations proposed Bakir Izetbegović therefore he emerged as the only candidate proposed by all municipal, cantonal, regional organizations,” said Genjac.

He noted that there is a provision in the SDA Statute that the election of an organ be made by secret ballot among several candidates. However, it is also foreseen that if only one candidate for an organ emerges, in this case the president of the party, that the electing body, in this case Congress, can decide to make the election by public vote i.e. by acclamation.

“Considering all these facts, it will be suggested to Congress that the election be made by public vote, and if the majority of delegates in Congress accept it, it will be done for rational reasons and to save time,” said the SDA Secretary General.

When it comes to amending the Statute, he said that Congress could either adopt amendments to the Statute or adopt a new Statute.

Citing some of the proposed changes, he said that there is a clear provision that there should be at least one representative of each constituent people in the party leadership, one representative of each constituent people in the party's Presidency and that adequate representation of constituent peoples should also be ensured at lower levels as well.
