Miroslav Lajčak receives Doctor Honoris Causa from University of Mostar

MOSTAR, September 12 (FENA) - The University of Mostar awarded on Thursday the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Miroslav Lajčak, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia, former Speaker of the United Nations General Assembly and High Representative in BiH.

“Accepting the report of the Expert Committee, the Senate of the University of Mostar decided on November 24, 2017 to award to His Excellency Miroslav Lajčak the title of Honorary Doctorate of the University of Mostar for his outstanding contribution in the field of scientific creativity, promotion of the University of Mostar and its worldwide recognition, but also for his outstanding contributions in the fields of legal and political science, international relations as well as merit in the realization of human rights, democracy, preservation of national and cultural identity and equality of BiH, as well as support in its Euro-Atlantic path,”  said the promoter of today's laureate, prof. dr. Ph.D. Vesna Kazazić.

Lajčak thanked the University of Mostar for the honor bestowed upon him.

“I greatly respect the University of Mostar because it is well recognized among European universities,” said Lajčak.

Miroslav Lajčak was born on March 20, 1963 in Poprad, Slovakia. He holds a law degree from Comenius University in Bratislava and a law degree from the Moscow State Institute for International Relations.

From 30 June 2007 to March 2009, he served as United Nations High Representative for BiH and EU Special Representative. During his tenure, BiH signed the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the EU.

In 2009 he became Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia, and in 2010 the European Foreign Service appointed him Director for Russia, the East and the Western Balkans.

Since April 2012 he has been acting Deputy Prime Minister in the Slovak Government.
