SARAJEVO, September 9 (FENA) - BiH Prosecutor's Office and BiH Border Police are conducting activities to combat smuggling of illegal migrants, within which five suspects were arrested.
The operation is being implemented within the framework of an international operation, with the support of EUROPOL, and partner institutions of Croatia are also engaged in the joint combat against illegal migration.
Within the operation codenamed “River” in several cities in northern BiH, a total of five suspects have been detained and searched, charged with criminal offenses of organizing a group of people or an association for committing the criminal offense of smuggling migrants.
They have been deprived of liberty and are currently being processed by the Prosecutor's Office of BiH and the Border Police, and they are suspected of engaging in organized smuggling of migrants from high migration risk countries in 2019.
These activities are being carried out in Prijedor, Kostajnica, Kozarska Dubica, Novi Grad and other places.
Evidence collected indicates that the suspects had contacts with persons from Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia, and that, for large sums of money, they repeatedly smuggled several groups of several dozen illegal migrants across the territory of BiH, and then into the territory of the Republic of Croatia, Slovenia and other EU countries.
In this way, the suspects realized large amounts of illegal material gain and caused damage to these states in the form of illegal migration and problems caused by illegal migration.
This operation codenamed "River" is a coordinated international operation of several countries to combat illegal migration in the Western Balkans, the BiH Prosecutor's Office said.
