SARAJEVO, August 29 (FENA) - Head of the European Union Delegation to BiH, Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, who is leaving his duty soon, suggested in an interview for today's edition of “Dnevni avaz” to consider an option of snap elections if no solution to the problem of the implementation of election results could be reached.
Wigemark believes it is important to find a way to implement the agreement signed by SDA, HDZ and SNSD leaders by the set deadline of September 5.
“It is not impossible, with enough goodwill, to talk about all the details. But if some are constantly going to question and challenge whether these are good or bad intentions... Let the BiH Presidency play its role, and that includes the appointment of the chairman, as the candidate verification process has already been completed,” he said.
According to Wigemark, the next step is to reach an agreement and offer the name of the chairman designate to the BiH Parliamentary Assembly. What remains is the discussion in the Parliament, so it might be possible to deliberate within the Parliament a possibility to request a repeat of the process.
“You do not have an instrument of snap elections here in BiH, and I suppose in most countries if an agreement is not reached, new elections would happen. And, if I can make a recommendation, that would be it. You have exhausted the mandate of an earlier convocation, there are no election results and the country is at a standstill. Even in Kosovo, you have new elections. If Kosovo can do it, I think so can BiH,” Wigemark said in his interview with “Dnevni avaz”.
