MOSTAR, August 28 (FENA) - The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) BiH announced a press release stating that HDZ BiH is at the forefront of Bosnia and Herzegovina's integration into the European Union and NATO.
HDZ points out that through firmly defined foreign policy goals, consistent political action and co-operation with international officials, diplomats and organizations, political representatives of that party have taken concrete steps towards EU and NATO membership in the past, and are committed to active engagement in integration processes, progress of BiH, as well as fulfillment of all set conditions set before BiH.
Through 5 reasons 'FOR', HDZ BiH recalls an active role and a consistent policy, which, as they said, helped on the BiH’s path towards the EU and NATO.
The first reason is BiH’s application for membership of the European Union, which was submitted on 16 February 2016 in Brussels by Dragan Čović, President of HDZ BiH.
“In submitting the application, Čović reaffirmed commitment to European path, improving socio-economic conditions and pursuing reform processes. That same year, on September 20, 28 Member States accepted the application, requiring from the European Commission to prepare an assessment of BiH's readiness to join," it is said in a statement.
HDZ BiH points out as the second reason the submission of the replies to the European Commission Questionnaire, and they recall that on February 28, 2018, Dragan Čović handed over the replies to the Questionnaire to the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, in Sarajevo.
The next reason is the support of the ANP within the Council of Ministers.
"Within the BiH Council of Ministers, HDZ BiH officials have proposed adopting and sending the ANP in accordance with NATO integration principles. Unfortunately, the PDP and SDS political options have been repeatedly (a total of 7; 5 in sessions, 2 in working versions) acted destructively by stopping the further progress of NATO integration and the discharge of state duties. Through every action, Croatian officials were guided by HDZ BiH party's priority goals, namely EU and NATO membership " it is said in a statement.
The fourth reason emphasizes that Croatian political officials, members of the HNS and HDZ BiH, were appointed, by decision of President Dragan Čović and the Presidency, to key positions in BiH institutions contributing to BiH’s path to the EU and NATO.
"Through the active performance of the functions of the Minister of Defense of BiH (Marina Pendeš), Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH (Vjekoslav Bevanda), Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister and Chairman of the Committee for NATO Integration (Josip Brkić), Head of the BiH Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (Nikola Lovrinović), they significantly contributed to the progress. All their decisions, votes and actions were in line with the decisions of HDZ BiH: a positive, proactive step towards BiH's progress in Euro-Atlantic integration, " it is said in a statement.
As the fifth reason, it was stated that in 2009 the Republic of Croatia became a member of NATO and as a member within the organization provides intensive support for the integration of BiH into this alliance.
"The Republic of Croatia is the largest ally of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is committed to its stability, peace, development and membership in the European Union and NATO. As sister parties, we share the same views and values on this issue," the HDZ BiH said.
