MOSTAR, August 27 (FENA) - A ceremony on Wednesday, August 28, will mark the completion of the construction of the 1,000th housing unit under the Regional Housing Program - the state housing project in BiH.
The ceremony, organized by the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina, will take place in front of the newly built house of the returnee family of Jozo Rajić in Grabovica near Mostar.
Thanks to the Regional Housing Program, a total of 3,200 housing units for vulnerable refugees, displaced persons and returnees will be secured in Bosnia and Herzegovina by the end of 2021.
By the end of 2019, another 500 housing units are planned to be handed over to the owners, while the remaining 1,700 are expected to be completed in 2020-2021.
To date, donors have allocated EUR 287 million to finance housing projects and support program implementation, of which EUR 64.5 million relates to projects in BiH.
The European Union is the largest donor with EUR 234 million, followed by the United States, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, as well as several other countries.
The program is strongly supported by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB).
