Berton: Members of BiH Presidency to find compromise

SARAJEVO, August 20 (FENA) - Ambassador Bruce G. Berton, Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina thinks that the issue of BiH membership in NATO is being used to delay state-level government formation and that it is a fundamental problem that needs to be addressed.

He stressed that not forming government is an obstacle to any reforms that BiH needs to implement on its path to Euro-Atlantic integration.

“This is precisely why we request from the BiH Presidency members to find a compromise in order to make progress,” Berton said, adding that the OSCE does not have a position on BiH's membership in NATO, but that people of BiH should decide on it.

He recalled that there are many programs and activities in the OSCE Mission to BiH in various fields, such as human rights, education, security and cooperation, to help people in BiH to move forward.

"But it's often very frustrating because there needs to be political will to start something," Berton concluded.
