SARAJEVO, August 19 (FENA) - Upon the request of the BiH Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, the BiH Veterinary Office restricted import of chicken meat and chicken products from Turkey to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Minister Mirko Šarović has issued the decision to protect domestic industry, the Ministry said in a statement.
“The decision applies to export facilities in Turkey that are not licensed for export to the European Union and aims to maintain the status of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a country that can recently export its chicken meat products to the European Union,” Šarović said.
The Ministry states that the measure concerning the prohibition on import is particularly important if it is known that, despite being able to satisfy domestic demand and being a significant exporter, Bosnia and Herzegovina imports thousands of tons of chicken meat and meat products from neighboring countries and Turkey.
“Domestic production of chicken meat and chicken meat products has been developing rapidly in recent years. In 2018, more than 9,000 tons of meat and meat products were exported from BiH to the countries of the region, and in the past few days the first contingents have also started exporting to the countries of the European Union,” stated the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH.
