Novalić - Van der Auweaert: FBiH ready to help within its jurisdiction

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, August 16 (FENA) – The Federation of BiH Prime Minister Fadil Novalić met today with the Head of the Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Regional Coordinator for the Western Balkans, Peter Van der Auweaert.

They discussed the current situation regarding migration in BiH, and possible solutions for the placement of migrants using non-prospective state property, the FBiH Government said.

“The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is ready to assist as much as it can, respecting international standards and human norms, but exclusively through the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, because as an entity we have no competence for these activities. We will assist the state to whose jurisdiction it belongs, as much as we need to,” said Prime Minister Novalić.

He recalled that the Federation of BiH had been involved in activities related to the issue of migration from the beginning and that it had provided accommodation through the state until now. In early June, the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, through transfers to other levels of government, and by conducting one of the conclusions of the thematic session of the Federation of BiH Parliament on the issue of migration, allocated four million KM to the Una Sana Canton.

Van der Auweaert thanked for the activities of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina so far, among other things, for giving in to the use of the Ušivak barracks and the Agrokomerc facility to accommodate migrants.

The meeting, held at the headquarters of the FBiH Government in Sarajevo, was attended by Fahrudin Solak, head of the FBiH Operational Staff for Migration and Director of the FBiH Civil Protection Administration.
