SARAJEVO, August 13 (FENA) - The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued a decision on the request of Safet Brkić, convicted of taking part in war in Syria, reversing the decision of the Court of BiH and Municipal Court in Visoko in respect of the sentence, and sentenced him to a single sentence of three years and two months.
In December 2016, Brkić was finally sentenced by the Court of BiH to three years for organizing a terrorist group in Syria, and then by the Municipal Court in September 2014. The Cantonal Court in Zenica reversed the verdict in the part of the sentencing decision and he was sentenced to three months for instigating racial and religious hatred, strife and animosity in March 2015.
Brkić petitioned the Court of BiH for the unification of the prison sentences imposed by those decisions and was ultimately sentenced to three years and two months.
It was stated in the verdict of the Court of BiH that on May 13, 2013, Brkić traveled from Sarajevo Airport to Istanbul, and then illegally moved to Syria to the city of Haritan with the intention of fighting on the side of the so-called Islamic State, where he stayed until March 5, 2014 and participated in terrorist activities together with other persons from BiH.
