GORAŽDE, August 9 (FENA) - The authorities of the Swiss Canton of Glarus arrived yesterday for a two-day visit to the Bosnian Podrinje Canton of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BPC).
Glarus Canton Prime Minister Andrea Bettiga, Deputy Prime Minister Marianne Lienhard, Minister Kaspar Becker and Secretary General Hansjörg Dürst, accompanied by Swiss Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Andrea Rauber Saxer met yesterday with BPC Prime Minister Aida Obuća in Goražde.
Sharing experiences and establishing long-term friendships were the focus of the meeting between the political leaders of the two cantons.
Canton of Glarus and the BPC Canton are economically developed cantons, although they are among the smallest in their countries in area and population.
“The cantons in both countries are very similar. We can learn a lot from each other in segments such as developing inter-cantonal cooperation, strategic planning or efficient budget management,” said Ambassador Rauber Saxer.
The Swiss delegation met with authorities and cantonal parliamentarians to discuss the situation in BPC and experiences with the Swiss Cooperation Program in BiH, as well as to present the functioning of the cantonal parliaments and the establishment of the government in Switzerland.
The delegation also visited the production facilities of Prevent, as well as cultural and historical monuments of the area.
“This is my second visit to BiH. I appreciate your hospitality and natural beauties of this country,” said the Prime Minister of Glarus Canton.
Yesterday’s visit came after a working visit by BPC officials to Glarus in 2018, when the two cantons established their first connections.
