SARAJEVO, August 8 (FENA) - In an interview with FENA, Deputy Minister of Defense of BiH Sead Jusić said that the Annual National Plan is the first step in fulfilling NATO aspirant country commitments when they want to activate the MAP program.
“The NATO Cooperation Program, which is contained in that final cycle called the MAP, is one broad plan of measures that a country needs to fulfill for full membership. It covers five basic areas in each country - legal, security, defense, economic, budgetary... In this respect, when invited to the MAP program, the country makes its first annual national plan, what it wants to change, what it wants to reform in that year in key social areas and what it wants to focus on,” explained Jusić.
He noted that NATO does not specify what these are, adding that there are certain things that are necessary.
“We have said that we want to reach certain standards and we have to contemplate on what we need to change the most. But what comes next is what the Allies will look at, so what is planned to be done on that reform path. The Allies look at it, accept it, ask for refinement, clarification, etc.,” said Jusić.
In this regard, he added, the NATO Integration Process Commission, in 2017 and 2018, worked to prepare a document in the situation when the MAP was activated, so BiH “is ready to submit its first annual plan.”
He emphasized that sending the first national plan absolutely does not imply automatic NATO membership, but it means that we are moving towards full membership.
