Documents on rules and cooperation in looking for missing persons signed

SARAJEVO, July 30 (FENA) – Relevant documents for implementation of the protocol on co-operation in the process of tracing missing persons were signed today in Sarajevo by representatives of missing persons’ institutes from BiH, Serbia and Croatia.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH Nikola Perišić and Chairman of the Committee on Missing Persons of the Government of the Republic of Serbia Veljko Odalović signed the Working Rules and Procedures for the Implementation of the Protocol on Cooperation in Search of Missing Persons between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Council of Ministers of BiH.

Perišić, together with the Assistant Minister for Missing Persons of the Croatian Ministry of Veterans of the Republic of Croatia, Stjepan Sučić, signed the Rules of Procedure between the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH and the Ministry of Croatian Veterans of the Republic of Croatia for the implementation of the Protocol on Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Council of Ministers of BiH.

After the signing, Perišić emphasized that these documents give a new dimension to the existing cooperation, and that the whole process of finding and identifying missing persons is rising to a higher level.

“These working rules and procedures regulate the procedures for exchanging available information and documentation relevant to resolving the issue of missing persons, as well as the procedures for determining the existence of graves, the process of joint exhumations and identification of remains, their handover, reconnaissance and joint marking and financing of all activities,” he stated.

He adds that the process receives an institutional framework through which procedures and exchanges of information are clearly defined, which will significantly speed up procedures for searching for missing persons.
