Dodik: BiH Presidency's conclusion is very harmful to the interests of RS

BANJA LUKA, July 17 (FENA) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Dodik, claims that the decision of this institution regarding the construction of the Pelješac Bridge is "destructive and very harmful to the vital interests of RS".

The BiH Presidency yesterday adopted the conclusions requesting from the Republic of Croatia to suspend works on the construction of the Pelješac Bridge and to resolve all outstanding issues through the negotiations since Bosnia Herzegovina will not give up on its right to access to open seas.

Dodik argues that the adoption of this conclusion by the BiH Presidency "on the same day when the Agreement on the Construction of the Bridge on the Sava River near Gradiška was signed, indicates that the damage being produced is not only a damage to Croatia, but indirectly it is an intent to jeopardize the bridge project on the Sava River near Gradiška, which is a vital interest for RS".

RS, as he said, does not support solutions that are partial and result of daily politicking when it comes to disputed issues with neighbors, especially when it comes to the state border, regardless of whether it is on land or the border in the territorial seas.

“The issue of the construction of the Komarna-Pelješac Bridge, located on the territory of the Republic of Croatia, as well as the neglect of other issues, such as the border in Kostajnica, the border issues with the Republic of Serbia and other issues, do not contribute to the development of good neighborly relations and cause damage to both BiH and its entities,” Dodik stated in his explanation of the decision confirming his statement regarding the Pelješac Bridge.

Dodik said that “if there was an understanding that the construction of this bridge would jeopardize the interest of BiH, it should have been done before the construction of the bridge began, and not now when it is in the second phase of construction.”

From all of the above said, he added, “it can be concluded that the decision of the Presidency of BiH is very harmful to the vital interests of RS.”

Dodik called on members of the entity parliament at tomorrow’s session to confirm his stance by a two-thirds majority, and thus dispute the conclusion of the BiH Presidency and prevent it from coming into force.
