UK - More than 1,100 events during the week of mourning for Srebrenica

SARAJEVO, July 15 (FENA) - In many British cities during the Week of Remembrance of the genocide in Srebrenica in July lectures, addressing the surviving victims, exhibitions, commemorations, workshops and screenings of documentaries, concerts of classical music, theater plays, and peaceful walks were organized.

In 2019, more than 1,100 events were held in the UK, which was attended by a large number of people. Besides the commemoration, the organization "Remembering Srebrenica" working in schools across the country and through educational packages on the lessons learned from the genocide in Srebrenica and other educational activities, working with more than 95,000 children, said the BiH UK Network.

The statement said that each year the charity "Remembering Srebrenica" (The memory of Srebrenica) selects a theme that reflects an aspect of genocide that has to be marked. This year's theme "Bridging the divide - countering hatred" wants to inspire all people to challenge those that aim to divide the community and to recognize those who build bridges between communities.

These numerous meetings attended by various personalities from the world of politics, sports, art, every individual with a task to work on raising awareness of people in education, to build a future of peace, respect and tolerance among all people regardless of their origin, nationality, religion , gender, social status.

With the help of the organization " Remembering Srebrenica " in headed by Dr. Waqar Azmi OBE and with the support of key figures from the English government, the memory of Srebrenica was revived. Thanks to the great man, Dr. Waqar Azmiju, founder Remembering Srebrenica , many war stories are told, pain and groan of mothers of Srebrenica are heard around the world.

 

Waqar Azmija the University of Georgetown as one of 500 most influential Muslims of the world, is a former adviser to the British government and the ambassador of the EU in intercultural dialogue.

He points out how Remembering Srebrenica aims to spread awareness about the genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina, on what brings hatred, the education of young British people about the atrocities in Srebrenica.

 

"Today, Week of mourning for Srebrenica officially ends with a peace march, which took place in Belfast, London, Birmingham and Manchester with over 1100 held commemorative activities across the UK. Thanks to the thousands of people who participated in the memorial activities.

Thanks to our champions, as many as 1200, regional committees Remembering Srebrenicaorganizations and three national committees, all of our speakers, brave mothers of Srebrenica, Fadila Efendic and Ramiz Gurdić and surviving witness from Prijedor, Fate Music and Vice-President of the Republic of Serbian, Ramiz Salkic for such a powerful speech at the national memorial service in the UK. Incredible Vahid Maric, who was a translator on stage at the national ceremony. Oliver Kamm, a writer and columnist for The Times who brilliantly led national ceremony, Secretary of State, Rt Han James Brokenshirea and Minister for faith, Lord Bourn from Aberystwyth. Our 8 "Champion of the Month" and 3 representatives of the State Committee, which burned 11 candles at the ceremony marking the 11th of July.
