NEUM, July 14 (FENA) - As part of the Road Construction Project M-17.3 Neum - Stolac, the Žaba tunnel (Hutovo), 970 meters long, has been drilled today.
The value of the contract is 23.057.197,66 KM with VAT.
According to the Director of the FBiH Roads Ljubo Pravdić, the deadline for the construction is two years, and the works began in October last year.
"It is expected that the entire tunnel to be completed by May next year," he said.
The international tender for the construction went to Euro-Asfalt Sarajevo and HP Investing Mostar.
The complete road Stolac-Neum, M17.3, in the length of 36 kilometers, should be in operation by 2021. This will mean the final connecting of the only BiH city on the seacoast with the rest of the country with a high-quality main road.
The Federation of BiH Prime Minister Fadil Novalić explained that this natural obstacle that separated Neum and Stolac, also separated Neum from the rest of FBiH.
"This is a very important undertaking and I hope that in the next two years we will realize this dream ever since the 19th century and the Austro-Hungarian Empire's rule, to connect freely and fully with the Neum Bay without having to cross any border crossings," Prime Minister Novalić said after the tour of the tunnel.
Minister of Transport and Communications of FBiH Denis Lasić, stressing the importance of the project, and the long-announced main road Neum-Stolac, explained that the project is taking place with a much faster dynamics, three months ahead of schedule.
Mayor of Neum Živko Matuško pointed out that the road will ease and shorten the journey to Neum for the rest of BiH, and this will surely improve the position of the region with regards to tourism sector.
The FBiH Government has allocated 40 million euros for the construction of the Neum-Stolac main road, which is part of the construction and modernization program for the main roads in the Federation of BiH.
