BANJA LUKA, July 12 (FENA) - Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassador Bruce Berton, reiterated today that corruption is a cancer that undermines democratic institutions and the public trust in their work.
Berton pointed out that there are some positive developments in the fight against corruption in some of the cantons in the Federation of BiH, but much remains to be done.
Responding to the question about the media reports on the alleged involvement of the BiH High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) President Milan Tegeltija in corruption affairs, Berton said that "the allegations that a member of the judiciary has been involved in something like that, also harms the public's trust in the institutions."
“All members of the judiciary, especially the HJPC, should be the bearers of standards in ethical and professional behavior,” said the Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH.
He reiterated that no one can be above the law, including the HJPC.
"We all know what damage corruption can do in a society. Therefore, tackling this phenomena will require years-long effort and struggle," Berton said.
