JAHORINA, July 9 (FENA) - Development of regional cooperation and good neighborly relations send a clear message that this region can be part of the integration processes, and especially those processes that lead Bosnia and Herzegovina towards membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union, which can incorporate each of the SEECP member countries.

The BiH Presidency member Željko Komšić today addressed the participants of the second day of the Southeast European Cooperation Process Summit (SEECP) held in Jahorina. This assembly marks the end of a year-long chairmanship of BiH over this regional initiative.

Komšić recalled several SEECP goals such as stability, security and good neighborly relations, intensifying multilateral, economic and trade cooperation in the region, especially cross-border cooperation, improving transport, communication and energy infrastructure, investing and promoting trade.

Some of the objectives are the promotion of cooperation in the humanitarian, social and cultural fields, and cooperation in the field of justice and home affairs, fight against organized crime, illegal drug trafficking and weapons and terrorism.

“When we look at these goals, then we can conclude that the cooperation of SEECP member countries has been very good in these areas. There is certainly room for improvement and we have to work together to solve many open issues that we have, which will further improve our relations,” he added.

In this regard, he invited all participants to make additional efforts together and find ways to solve these open issues, in the interest of all citizens, especially because of the necessity to maintain the stability of the region through mutual cooperation and common mechanisms, to maintain and to control illegal migration flows.

“Only together we will be able to face the challenges ahead of us, more easily and effectively. In this way, we will show that the area of Southeast Europe certainly belongs to the European Union, and that each of the countries that have not yet got the status of a member of the European Union can certainly overcome all the challenges imposed by the membership procedure,” stated Komšić.

Komšić also urged all SEECP member states to respect the judgments of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, and thus pay tribute to all victims of genocide, as one of the prerequisites for building lasting reconciliation and confidence among the countries of the Western Balkans.
