SARAJEVO, June 19 (FENA) – The conference of the diaspora of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is being held for the second time in a row, commenced in Sarajevo today.
The conference is entitled “The Youth and BiH: Let’s walk together” and it is organized by the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH.
It is being realized within the project of the Ministry and the Swiss Government “Diaspora for Development”. The partners of the project are the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The conference is one of a series of activities carried out in accordance with the Policy on Cooperation with Emigration, adopted two years ago by the Council of Ministers of BiH. The document highlights the state's commitment to strengthening and preserving relations with emigrants, and creating conditions for the participation and contribution of emigrants to the socio-economic development of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The relevant Minister Semiha Borovac told reporters that young people are not coincidentally the focus of this year's conference.
The intention of the organizers is that youth emigrants change the awareness about the relationship with BiH and the development of the policies towards the diaspora.
The reason for that is that the Swiss believes that the diaspora is of great significance to BiH and that it can positively contribute with knowledge, expertise and experience.
UNDP Resident Representative to BiH Steliana Nedera stresses that partnership is a crucial element of the initiative, including this conference.
So far, the diaspora invested around three million KM in different projects, she added, saying that focus has been put on creating jobs. Five companies have been started by young entrepreneurs under the mentorship of people from diaspora.
The head of the IMO Mission to BiH Peter Van der Auweraert said that mass migration of people from Bosnia and Herzegovina in the search for a better life will influence the image of BiH regarding its development which is a trend that cannot be stopped easily.
The diaspora conference “The Youth and BiH: Let’s walk together” will be held from June 19 to 21.
