SARAJEVO, June 7 (FENA) - Remains of seven victims were uncovered so far in a recently found mass grave on Mount Igman, Golo Brdo site. The victims will be exhumed during today, a spokesperson for BiH Missing Persons Institute (MPI) Emza Fazlić told FENA.

Reportedly, the remains belong to Bosniak victims from Donji Hadžići near Sarajevo who were killed in an attempt to reach the free territory controlled by the Army of BiH in the beginning of the 1992-95 war.

“They were ambushed and killed at the Golo Brdo location. Shell casings that were found at the site of the crime as well as other pieces of evidence lead to the conclusion who the victims were and what had happened to them. It is assumed that this was a group of 12 people from Donji Hadžići, but their identity will be determined through DNA analysis of bone samples, which will be taken after the bodies are transported to the Visoko Cemetery,” said MPI spokesperson Emza Fazlić.

The mass grave was uncovered on Wednesday after a thorough search carried by the BiH Prosecutor's Office. The search was conducted in a joint operation of the Missing Persons Institute, and the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) is providing technical assistance at the exhumation site.

Fazlić noted that the families might get the information about the victims' identities within the next 30-40 days.

“There is also information about the existence of several mass graves on Mount Igman and the investigators will intensify their work in the following period now that the area has been fully cleared of landmines since 2017” said Fazlić.
