BRČKO, May 21 (FENA) - The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development was marked today at the Youth Square in Brčko, organized by the network “Promote the Positive” and the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the support of the Government of the Brčko District of BiH.
The marking this date was organized in order to promote multiculturalism and raise awareness of different cultural expressions and values for the purpose of their joint participation in strengthening the connections in the Brčko District, the organizers said.
Mayor of the Brčko District, Siniša Milić, said in his opening address that this was an opportunity to say what the District Government has been doing when it comes to promoting cultural differences, dialogue and tolerance.
"When it comes to public services, we in the District have established statutory rights to non-discrimination that imply equal rights and access to all regardless of our differences. Intolerance is mostly due to the ignorance of those different and the other, and therefore this activity is an opportunity to point out or appeal to the consciousness of all of us that we accept those different from us and the other and that in synergy we jointly contribute to the development and prosperity of the Brčko District of BiH," said Milić.
Namik Hadžalić from the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina said that the OSCE has for the past two years supported civil society organizations and the marking of May 21- World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, and that today, the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina has shown its cultural diversity through its cultural content organized for the marking.
