Young people from BiH learning about fundamental principles of the EU

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, May 17 (FENA) - Within project "My place in the European Union: building and promotion of dialogue on the EU integration", implemented by the Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Administration of the Riyasat of the Islamic Community in BiH with support of the European Union, lectures and workshops were held during April in six BiH madrasahs, IC secondary schools, which have the aim to inform youth population about integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the EU.

Main debate will be held within the project, a public competition, which is currently open and a study trip to Brussels, MINA reports.

During the project young people were informed about the European Union, its fundamental principles and the EU integration of BiH, but also compatibility between Islamic values and the values promoted in the EU. Idea of the project is fight against prejudice that European values are irreconcilable with Islam, especially Islam in BiH, promoting co-existence with others, pointing to the fact that the European heritage is also Islamic heritage and that Islam is not a new and foreign religion to Europe.

"This country, as well as Europe, has had periods where wealth of its diversity was used as an instrument for conflicts, but it has also had far longer periods of unity in diversities. With a multi-century tradition of pluralism and inter-culturalism, Bosnia is an example of harmony and co-existence of different ethnic and religious communities," it was stated.

Project started in April and will last for five months.
