SARAJEVO, May 14 (FENA) - Citizens need to be encouraged to stand against corruption, and in order to achieve this, citizens should see that there are anti-corruption bodies that will support them and which achieve results in preventing corruption, it was said today in Sarajevo at an expert roundtable titled "Better communication of anti-corruption bodies with the public and the media".

Therefore, anti-corruption bodies must become more visible, communicating regularly on issues related to the fight against corruption.

This expert roundtable was organized as part of the EU-funded project "Support to the Implementation of Anti-Corruption Strategies in BiH" (Institutional Support to Anti-Corruption - IPAK).

One of the key objectives of the IPAK project is to improve the communication of anti-corruption bodies with the public and the media.

The IPAK project prepared a draft of the Communication Strategy Module for all anti-corruption bodies in BiH.

“Today's event serves us to review the proposed strategy that we have developed for better communication between anti-corruption bodies and institutions with the media and with the public. We believe that the role of anti-corruption bodies and institutions is a sort of a lighthouse, to light the road and to lead the fight against corruption,” told FENA the leader of the IPAK project team Zoran Jačev.

He added that in the absence of such anti-corruption bodies and institutions, we have negative occurrences, "meaning that people do not have hope that something can be done against corruption, the institutions do not build desire within citizens to resist corruption and thus, corruption only spreads and becomes stronger".

“Therefore, as it has been foreseen in the project, we have analyzed the presence of anti-corruption bodies and institutions in the media. Based on this, as well as on the basis of the analysis of the existing strategies of some bodies and institutions for communication with the public, we have drafted a strategy that will indicate how this topic should be communicated in the future,” explained Jačev.

“Based on all the said above, we will develop a training and we hope to improve the way the anti-corruption bodies and institutions function in BiH,” said Jačev.

He pointed out that the importance of the media is unequivocal, as the media are those who spread the messages and thus influence the citizens' mood against corruption. Their willingness to resist corruption is being encouraged and this also helps to send a message that the fight against corruption must exist.
