SARAJEVO, May 8 (FENA) - President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Suma Chakrabarti, addressing the participants at the opening of the annual EBRD forum in Sarajevo, recalled that the bank has been present in Bosnia and Herzegovina since end of 1995 with numerous projects.

In the last three years, the EBRD has invested ten billion euros in the countries in which it operates, and the focus is on implementing quality projects.

According to him, one of the goals is to create an economy in which young people can fulfill their dreams and not leave their countries, while Bosnia and Herzegovina represents a part of the bank’s portfolio because the EBRD operates on three continents.

We have achieved a better concentration of operations and the spread of the EBRD to smaller countries, not just the large ones.

Nothing would be possible without donor support, he said, and reminded of the 10th anniversary of the Western Balkans Investment Fund.

“We must all strive towards the same vision, be constructive and progressive, market oriented, and focus on the economy," Chakrabarti told participants of the EBRD annual forum, and in particular welcomed the fact that leaders of countries from the region also attend this great gathering, and said that he would award the Nobel Prize to the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Zoran Zaev if he could.

The EBRD wants to do more in all the regions it operates, "integration is one of our priorities, it's a strong tool for expanding trade, which encourages the exchange of new ideas and innovations," said Chakrabarti.

“The Corridor 5-C is one of the main regional projects for the EBRD. It is a great economic opportunity for the region," Chakrabarti said, pointing out that Serbia and Kosovo should improve the dialogue, as this would be a positive step towards regional integration.

Jyrki Katainen, Vice-President of the European Commission for Employment, Growth and Investment also  spoke at the opening of the EBRD Annual Meeting, and said that the event is important not only for Bosnia and Herzegovina, but for the entire region.
