SARAJEVO, May 8 (FENA) - Prime Minister of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev said today in Sarajevo that the increase in trade between the countries of the Western Balkans and the countries of the European Union will surely come if the same improves among the countries of the region.

Today, Zaev took part in the summit of the leaders of the six of the Western Balkan countries, organized during the Annual Meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which was an opportunity for leaders to discuss opportunities and potentials for development and send a message to investors who came to Sarajevo that this region is safe for investments.

In a statement to the media, he noted that the EBRD is one of the largest investors in all countries of the region. In North Macedonia, he said, they amount to almost two billion euros, adding that North Macedonia has its own ongoing infrastructure projects, and projects in the field of energy and connectivity.

He recalled that this is especially noticeable in the case of his country, as soon as the outstanding issues were resolved with Bulgaria and Greece; the people could see the economic benefits, among which he noted a rise in gross national product (GDP) by 5.5 percent, and unemployment decreased by 7.7 percent.

Also, foreign investments broke all records and rose to 624 million euros, which is 2.6 percent more than the average in the past eight years or twice as much as the best year since the country's independence, when the value of foreign investment was 340 million euros.

“Foreign investments from Greece in North Macedonia have already been agreed, amounting to more than a billion euros, all of which includes job creation and GDP growth, and new export opportunities,” added Zaev.

In this regard, Zaev encouraged the BiH politicians to make responsible political decisions, as well as political representatives of Serbia and Kosovo, to solve their problems, as this is the best way to serve the people and provide them with a better standard of living.
