SARAJEVO, April 19 (FENA) - The Archbishop of Vrhbosna, Cardinal Vinko Puljić, said today in Sarajevo that the Church is saddened after learning about the cases of sexual violence against children under its wing, assessing that this needs to be stopped as soon as possible.
Cardinal Puljić, at a press conference in Sarajevo today, responding to a question about the alleged case of sexual abuse of minors in the St. John Paul II Family Center near Čitluk, stressed that “such cases must be proven first.”
"When the case is proven, the Church starts the process against any abuse of children," he said.
The Archbishop of Vrhbosna considers that there needs to be prompt action in cases of sexual abuse, as such crimes leave lasting traumatic consequences on children.
Puljić also noted that “such prompt reactions are not only required when it comes to the cases of abuse in church ranks, but all such cases generally in a society, wherever they happen, they must be strictly sanctioned.”
