Lukač:Disputed provision banning photographing of police officers to be scrapped

FENA Dušica Stanojević

BANJA LUKA, April 18 (FENA) - RS Minister of Interior Dragan Lukač announced today that a provision in the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Public Peace and Order which relates to the photographing police officers will be withdrawn from the proposed law.

The media representatives, NGOs, international and domestic organizations rated this draft law as a controversial one, as it foresees it as a violation of the law when “an unauthorized person photographs or records police officers thus hindering them from performing their duties”.

In his statement to the journalists in Banja Luka, Lukač said that the RS MoI does not intent to prevent anyone from doing the photographing "in a civilized way, but that there are always those who will abuse this freedom and disturb police and other officials in their work."

“It was not our intent to interfere with the work of journalists,” said Lukač, pointing out that the Ministry of the Interior protects the freedom of the media.
