SARAJEVO, 9 April (FENA) - British Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Matthew Field pointed out today that the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina should pass a law on the protection of those who report cases of corruption as soon as possible.

“The fight against corruption is a key responsibility of every government. After adoption at the state level and in RS, the Federation of BiH is the only remaining level which has not adopted such a law.

It sends a negative message to the public and to all those who would like to react when there is a need for it.

I am sure that the FBiH Parliament is ready to fight corruption with all available means. Adoption of the law would be a strong weapon in this fight and would make it possible to produce better results,” said British Ambassador to the press ahead of the conference held on the topic "The need for a legal framework for the protection of those who report corruption cases in the Federation of BiH".

Such a law, which in the Federation of BiH has been in the procedure for more than a year, meets the best international standards and practices, Ambassador Field emphasized, adding that he is looking forward to its adoption.

Emphasizing that corruption thrives in a climate of secrecy and that it hates transparency, Field expects the FBiH Parliament, that is, the elected officials, support the legislation that protects individuals who commit themselves to reporting corruptive acts and phenomena, thereby expressing the commitment that corruption "is no longer acceptable.”

The conference "The need for a legal framework for the protection of those who report corruption in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina" was organized by the Anti-Corruption Team of the Government of FBiH and the project "Strengthening public integrity in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and RS" funded by the Government of the United Kingdom.

A special focus was placed on the exchange of experiences and legal solutions related to the protection of corruption reporters at those levels of government in BiH who have already adopted laws of this kind, as well as the need for faster adoption of a law at the level of the Federation of BiH.
