SARAJEVO, April 8 (FENA) - The official ceremony of awarding licenses for the fourth generation of mobile telephony networks (4G) to licensed operators in BiH was held today in Sarajevo.

Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Denis Zvizdić, presented the licenses to the representatives of the BH Telecom and the public enterprise “Hrvatske telekomunikacije” (Croat Telecommunications) Mostar, while representatives of “Telekom Srpske” (RS Telecom) were not present at today's ceremony, and their license will be subsequently presented to them.

Zvizdić said that more than 60 percent of the inhabited territory will be covered by the 4G network in the next year, while in the next five years, telecom operators will ensure coverage of 90 percent of the territory, with the intention primarily to cover the capital cities, all the towns and settlements, the main roads and tourist destinations.

He announced that in the next few months, citizens, as well as businesses in BiH, will be able to enjoy the benefits of the fourth generation of mobile telephony. He explained that this means that, according to the latest analysis, we will have at least seven or eight times the speed of internet for receiving and sending of the content.

Zvizdić said that the first city that will be able to use the 4G plus network will be Sarajevo, and a few days after, it will be made available for Mostar and all other cities and towns in BiH.

He thanked the Communications Regulatory Agency, the Ministry of Transport and Communications of BiH, as well as the telecom operators.

Zvizdić reiterated that in the next few months, bigger cities will be "covered", in the next year, all the towns and settlements and key roads, and in the next five years, at least 90% of the territory of BiH will be covered.

The Managing Director of BH Telecom Sedin Kahriman said that this date and this ceremony represent a very important milestone for BiH and all its citizens, for telecom operators, and for all users of their services.

He thanked the Council of Ministers of BiH, the CRA, the competent ministries and all those who contributed in administrative terms for BiH to officially become part of a large family of 4G plus telecom operators. We in BH Telecom, in 2017, adopted a master plan for the 5G network introduction. This is one important step towards keeping up with global telecommunication trends," said Kahriman.

He also announced that BH Telecom will experimentally release a 4G plus signal at the opening of the Mostar Fair tomorrow.
