US Ambassador Nelson inaugurates Đura Jakšić Primary School in Podnovlje

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, March 28 (FENA) - The United States Embassy to Bosnia and Herzegovina is pleased to announce the inauguration of the newly renovated Đura Jakšić Primary School in Podnovlje (Doboj), which had to be entirely rebuilt after its roof collapsed due to heavy snow in 2017.

The renovation represents the ongoing partnership between the U.S. Embassy, U.S. European Command, and the City of Doboj.  These institutions also cooperated in the reconstruction of a Doboj kindergarten destroyed during the 2014 floods.

Prior to the inauguration ceremony and the unveiling of a plaque detailing the reconstruction efforts, Ambassador Nelson joined Doboj Mayor Boris Jerinić in a tour of the new facilities.

During his remarks, Ambassador Nelson said “it is heartwarming to see a comfortable and new school for these kids two years after its roof collapsed.  While we can be proud of what the combined efforts and resources of the City of Doboj and the U.S. Embassy have built, the hard work of educating and preparing the next generation still lies ahead.“

The school will be fully reopened for students to attend classes at the start of the next school year in Fall 2019, stated the US Embassy Sarajevo.
