Milenko Gojgolović indicted for war crime against civilians in Vlasenica

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, March 28 (FENA) - Former Bosnian Serb Army soldier Milenko Gojgolović was charged with raping a Bosniak woman who he took from a detention camp in Vlasenica in July 1992.

The state prosecution on Thursday filed an indictment charging Milenko Gojgolović a former member of the Bosnian Serb Army’s Drina Corps, with raping a female prisoner in July 1992, BIRN reports.

According to the charges, Gojgolović came to the Sušica detention camp in Vlasenica, where Bosniak civilians, including women and children, were unlawfully detained, and took one woman away.

“The indictment alleges that the defendant took the victim to an abandoned house within the detention camp complex. He then threatened the injured party’s life with a gun, physically and mentally abused her, by hitting her on her head and body, and then raped and sexually abused her, which caused permanent consequences for the injured party,” the state prosecution said in a statement.

The prosecution said that the victim was handed over to Gojgolović by Sušica detention camp manager Dragan Nikolic, alias Jenki, who was sentenced by the Hague Tribunal to 20 years in prison for war crimes.

Nikolić, who admitted participating in the murder, rape and torture of Bosniak prisoners in 1992 and apologized to his victims during his trial, died last year.

The indictment has been filed to the state court for confirmation.
