SARAJEVO, March 19 (FENA) - Radovan Karadžić, the former president of Republika Srpska, charged with genocide and other serious crimes committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the period of war from1992 to 1995, is due to appear before the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) tomorrow for the pronouncement of the final verdict.
After the conclusion of the appeals stage, the final verdict against Karadžić, charged with the worst crimes committed on the soil of Europe after World War II, is to be pronounced by Judge Vagn Prüsse Joensen, Chair of the MICT Appeals Chamber.
In addition to the presiding judge of the Appeals Chamber, Danish Judge Joensen, the panel consists of judges - William Hussein Sekule from Tanzania, José Ricardo de Prada Solaes from Spain, Graciela Susana Gatti Santana from Uruguay and Ivo Nelson de Caires Batista Rosa from Portugal.
At the same time, he was acquitted of non-guilty plea for charges of genocide against Bosniaks and Croats in other seven municipalities in BiH.
The International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia found Karadžić guilty in March 2016 of genocide in Srebrenica, the persecution of Bosniaks and Croats throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, terrorizing the population of Sarajevo and taking UN peacekeepers hostage.
He was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
But, he was acquitted under the charges of genocide against Bosniaks and Croats in other seven municipalities in BiH.
Karadžić appealed against the verdict, but The Hague prosecution also filed an appeal asking for him to be found guilty of genocide in six other Bosnian municipalities and imprisoned for life.
