SARAJEVO, March 18 (FENA) - The USAID project Diaspora Invest project today, in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce of the Sarajevo Canton, held an info session in which the fourth public call for grants was presented in order to increase investments from diaspora and open new jobs through direct investments, transferring knowledge and introducing new technologies in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The focus of the call is support to small and medium-sized enterprises, which are not older than three years, and are partly or entirely owned by investors from the Bosnian Diaspora, and have a proven, lasting business links through members of the BiH Diaspora.

Head of USAID Diaspora Invest project, Sanjin Arifagić said that their previous experiences showed them that there is a significant interest for this grant program.

“We were quite surprised by the interest that the BiH emigration has showed in the previous three calls, and a similar interest is expressed this time. There is a diverse group of diaspora investors and we see them in a number of different sectors, such as the metal industry, agriculture, tourism, IT sector and others,” said Arifagić.

He added that around 1.1 million KM has been invested in the previous three calls through this grant program, and these companies have invested more than four million KM so far.

“Our call is focused primarily on attracting investors from the BiH emigration, so that the companies that apply must be registered in BiH, they must have participation of BiH emigrants in capital of at least 25 percent or clearly demonstrable connection with a member of the BiH emigration through legally valid documents,” added Arifagić, pointing out that this public invitation is open until April 1.

President of the SC Chamber of Commerce Muamer Mahmutović sdaid that the Chamber has recognized the value and potential of the diaspora investments, and considers that such and similar financial stimuli in the domestic economy are of great importance for its future growth and development.
