Amir Haskić receives year and half in prison for joining para-police formations

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, March 14 (FENA) - On 25 February 2019, the Appellate Division Panel of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina delivered a third-instance judgment in the Amir Haskić case, dismissing as ill-founded the appeal filed by defense counsel for the accused Amir Haskić in the part of the sentencing decision, while upholding the judgment delivered by the Court of BiH on 9 October 2018. Regarding the remaining grounds of appeal, the appeal was dismissed as inadmissible.

The second-instance judgment of the Court of BiH of 9 October 2018 granted the Prosecutor’s appeal, so the first-instance judgment of the Court of 9 July 2018 was modified so as to find the accused Amir Haskić guilty of the criminal offense of Illegal Establishment and Joining Foreign Paramilitary or under Article 162b(3) of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In that regard, the Appellate Panel sentenced him to 1 (one) year and 6 (six) months of imprisonment.

Pursuant to Article 56 of the CC BiH, the time the accused spent in pre-trial custody, from 26 December 2017 to 23 February 2018, was credited towards his sentence of imprisonment. The judgment remained unchanged in the remaining part, stated the BiH Court.
