Hasečić: Gathering of Chetniks in Višegrad is a glorification of genocide

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, March 10 (FENA) - The marking of the anniversary of the arrest of Chetnik general and war criminal from the Second World War, Dragoljub Draža Mihailović, began this morning in Višegrad.

Although in the years prior to this one, they used to mark it on March 13, the organizer Ravna Gora Chetnik Movement Višegrad changed the date, and the gathering began at 8 a.m., at the square of the fallen soldiers in Višegrad. Several sermons and prayers were held by Orthodox priests, and then flowers were laid on the monument to the Chetnik general.

On the occasion of the gathering of Chetniks in Višegrad, President of the Association "Women Victims of War" Bakir Hasečić said in a statement to the media that it is appalling, shameful and sad that the state institutions kept silent and watched the glorification of genocide and war crimes, but also the humiliation of victims.

"At such gatherings, which were held in earlier years as well, there were very few members of thee local population. That's why I'm wondering how these people entered BiH in the same uniforms in which war crimes were committed, not only in Višegrad but also throughout BiH.

Today they also gathered at the square in Višegrad, which is now called the Square of the Killed Serb Soldier, located in the vicinity of the Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge. This bridge is under the protection of UNESCO, and the Commission for the Protection of National Monuments has ordered that no ethnic or nationalic symbols or features can be dsplayed within 100 meters around the bridge. No one reacted to it. I can only imagine how the returnees felt. To be in this town and watch those same uniforms in which war crimes were committed. Perhaps there were war criminals among them, who, thanks to dual citizenship, have been hiding in Serbia all this time and this was their unique opportunity to come to Višegrad. I also want to say that the Minister of Security of BiH Dragan Mektić should be ashamed for letting gathering to take place," stressed Hasečić.
